Bizzie Bodies
Black History Month - Hidden Figures, 'WE' Festival and The Square Mile Projects, 2019
Bizzie Bodies is a community interest company (CIC) based in Rotherhithe, South London. they work with children who would otherwise have minimal access to digital technology and creative learning outside of school education. The organisation, run by CEO Emilie Mendy and Artistic Director Gabriella Codastafano, aims to facilitate social inclusion in a multi-cultural society, through visual arts, maker-craft, digital and future tech workshops aimed at 6 to 11 year olds. They also offer placement opportunities to young adults and students.
Witty Ditty Kidz have had the pleasure of facilitating at some of the wonderful events organised by Bizzie Bodies over the last two years - the latest event being the Black History Month We Festival 2019, and this inspirational event was no exception.
Below are a few examples taken from the exhibition of children's work produced over four days of workshops for Bizzie Bodies at Docklands Settlements, Rotherhithe.
Hidden Figures - 21 to 25 October 2019
Many of the products we consume and use on a daily basis today were made possible by the innovation, leadership and inventions of black entrepreneurs, activists, scientists and inventors, yet these great visionary people - who’s endeavours so often helped shape and change our world for the better - haven’t always been acknowledged or appreciated.
So to address this we spent a fun-filled 4 days showcasing these wonderful 'hidden figures' in black history, through paper-craft and poetry workshops.
Below is a snapshot of the brilliant work produced by over 30 kids who visited the festival over four, fun filled days.
WE Festival 2019 - 21 to 25 October 2019
'We' is the title used to show children of all colours and from all backgrounds and walks of life that together, we built, we are building and we will continue to build this world together. The children made 3D printed name tags and then hung lots of names from a 3D printed WE symbol symbolising TOGETHERNESS.
If you would like to know more about the work on display below and how the kids produced it contact us, we'd love to tell you all about it and if you run something similar, maybe come and do the same for you. Contact: info@wittydittydesign.com
City of London Corporation, Square Mile Project
October 1 to 3 December 2019
Children will be encouraged to LOOK at the architecture of the wonderful city they live in. They’ll learn a little about the amazing buildings in London's square mile, about it's very old churches and buildings, such as The Barbican, St Paul's Cathedral and Spitalfields. We’ll ask them to research some of the buildings and explain the history around that area! They will also be part of an amazing project, using future tech, art and design, to do with architecture, transport and a very special dragon!
